It may be hard to see, but Spring is right around the corner! Please
pass this on to anyone who you know who might be interested in playing softball this Spring, or learning about softball. Thanks!
The USM Softball Team is having their annual Softball Clinic for girls in grades 2-12 on March 1st and March 8th. From the registration form “These popular clinics allow players to
learn proper pitching, hitting, and defensive techniques from the
USM Softball Staff and team. Players will also perform drills so we
may make any necessary corrections. Defensive clinic stations
include pitching, infield, outfield and catching.”
When:
Fees:
The fee for each session is $25.00. If a player attends both
sessions on March 8th, the fee is $45.00.
Location:
The clinics will take place in the University of Southern Maine
Fieldhouse on the Gorham Campus of the University of Southern Maine.
How to Register: Complete this form (a PDF) and mail it in to the USM Coach with your check to reserve your slot.
Getting there: I’ll be taking my two girls to the March
1st. session so we’ll have four available seats in my van leaving from
our house in Greene at 7:30AM. Let me know if you’d like to join us! If
we fill up, maybe your Mom or Dad will drive and be able to take a few
others? Let me know if you can drive, or if you need a ride, and I’ll
act as the “driver/rider” matchmaker.
This is a great opportunity to break those winter doldrums, catch some Spring fever, and get a head start on your softball season!
Thanks,
Bill Clarke

If you’d like to register for a Spring Sport (Softball, Baseball, Rookie Ball, T-Ball or Lacrosse) in person, we’ll be manning a registration table in the lobby of Greene Central School the evening of Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11th. If one of those dates gets snowed out, we’ll do it again on Thursday, 3/13. We’ll be there from 6PM-8PM.
If you’d like, you can download, print and complete the registration form in advance and bring it along with your check. Or, you can complete the online form, print that, and bring that or mail it in.

Last year, GCS teacher John Lamon started up the GYAA Lacrosse program which a number of kids benefited from. But John had to return to his home state of New York and it looked like the Lacrosse program in Greene was short lived.
But GYAA Board member Bill Parquette has stepped up to save the day! Bill has volunteered to take over the Lacrosse program and coach, assuming no one else steps forward with more experience. While Bill has never played on a Lacrosse team before, he’s a quick study and knows how to coach, lead and motivate kids to play a sport with good sportsmanship. But if you have ever played Lacrosse and like to give Bill a hand, please contact Bill at 375-8405.

The Greene Gators 12 & under softball team wrapped up the season with a victory over Leeds at Mission Field Wednesday evening. The Gators ended up with an 8-2 record, losing two games to the awesome Turner Patriots. Congratulations to the Gators for a great season!
Friday night’s practice is optional as we’re be playing a “Parents vs. Kids” game. Never fear, Moms and Dads, you won’t be facing “Mach II Michelle” (think that name might stick, Michelle?
at the plate. We’ll use the pitching machine for both teams. All team family members or friends are welcome to come out and play. It should be fun. See you at 5:30PM Friday night.
We play our first game of the AK League Round Robin Tournament Saturday morning at 11AM. We’ll play the winner of one of the first two games, as will the Patriots. The winners of those two games will then play for the tournament championship. Gators, please be at the tournament by 10AM as we want to warm up and watch some of the other games.
Click this link for a map to Boofy-Qumiby field in Turner where the tournament will be held.
After the tournament, we’ll head over to Range Pond State Park for an end of the season team party.
Day Use Fees are $4.50 per person if you’re 12 or older. Children 5 - 11 years old: $1.00; Children under 5 are free. We have a State Park Vehicle Pass, so we’ll try to use that in a vehicle that can hold lots of people. Does anyone else have a vehicle pass?
Lets plan to meet on the far left end of the beach, assuming you’re on the beach looking at the water. If you get there first, try to grab a few picnic tables.

Mark Burgess and family has done a lot of work getting his field ready and we’re now good to go! The Men’s Softball pick-up game tonight will be at Mark’s field, and we should be there every Tuesday night for the remainder of the summer. Click here for a map to the field at the corner of Line Road and Quaker Ridge.

Men’s slow-pitch softball pick-up games will be starting up again this Tuesday, May 22nd. We’re playing every Tuesday night at 5:30PM
starting off at the Babe Ruth Field behind Greene Central School, but,
we plan to move to Mark Burgess’s field at the corner of Quaker Ridge
and Line Roads as soon as that field is ready. An announcement of the
field change will be posted on GreeneSports.com.
Any man from Greene, Leeds, Turner or
Sabattus is welcome to come by and play. If you have a good softball
bat, please bring it. We’ll be chipping in to buy some good balls this
year. Please supply your own oxygen tank and mask. Pass the word
to any guys you know who played last year! If you have any question,
please call Bill Clarke at (207) 713-4531.
